About Isola Studio

Isola Studio is the studio of Stinne Uldal Nguyen, a multidisciplinary artist working across mediums with texture and contrast. Her work is a search for the balance between raw and slow beauty in a fast-paced world.

How it began

Isola Studio was born during the pandemic, as a kind of therapy and a way to keep the mind steady. Over time it has grown into much more than that. The dream is to live fully by the idea of slow living, surrounded by art, love and creativity.

The name Isola carries two meanings: the isolation of the pandemic, and the dream of escaping to a deserted island in the tropics.

Materials, light and shadow

Stinne works with honest, natural materials: reclaimed wood, chalk, sand, raw canvas and linen, and cotton paper dyed by hand with coffee, tea and flowers from the garden. The materials keep the traces of their making, and no two works are alike.

The works play with the relationship between material, colour and emotion. Some of them change with the amount of light in a room, constantly shifting with the shadows throughout the day. Her hope is that people give themselves the time to stop, notice the details, and feel drawn in by the immediate simplicity.

The series

RUNES and CREVICES are reliefs in wood and chalk inspired by architecture and space. DIMENSIONS is a series of layered works in naturally dyed paper. The Depth Between is an ode to the ocean.

Every original is one of a kind and signed by the artist. Selected paintings are also available as limited edition prints.

Based in Bali

Stinne travels around Asia and has her base in Bali, where she designed and built her own minimalist wooden house. Architecture and interiors have always been a great passion, and they continue to shape the calm, spatial quality of her work.

Exhibitions and representation

Stinne has exhibited in Denmark and in Bali, and she is represented by the Swedish gallery The Ode To.
